Cable TV Providers and Their Channels

Posted in Topics on July 14th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

For cable TV providers, the main thing that they need for their business to run is the cable channels. We all know that huge cable channels like ESPN, CNN, Fox, Spike TV and the like are very hard to approach. They are one of the huge players in the industry, and they are expecting high quality proposals from different cable TV providers. For example, if you want to add ESPN to the channels list of your cable TV provider, it needs you to make a proper deal with them. It is very tough for them to reach an agreement on your service provider, that you must abide by their Terms of Service (TOS) and Privacy Policy. If you fail to abide by these rules, there is no reason that ESPN will be included in your list of channels.

The agreement between a cable channel and your cable service provider will be officially made using an agreement form. The agreement form will be signed by both parties, and the ones that will sign the form must be the owners of the company. If one of them is not available, a representative will be the one to sign with the permission from the owner of a company. Both parties will sign a contract for a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years or more. So if you want your cable television provider to have lots of channels, then you need to approach each cable channel to sign an agreement. After both parties have agreed on their deal, the cable channel will now take action to connect themselves to the desired cable TV provider. If you are planning to include international channels, you can send a representative to fly on a specific country where a cable TV channel was established. This is one of the hardest tasks that a cable service provider has ever experienced, but there will be huge returns in the near future.

It needs a lot of investment for a cable service provider to provide as many channels as they want, whether it is local or international. They can see that customers are browsing any channel they want to watch, but probably they prefer English speaking channels. Some cable television channels in the US includes lots of international channels from India, China, Philippines and other countries, which their first language is not English. As a result, they cannot watch those channels because they don’t understand anything about their language. Perhaps they speak English too, but not all the time. When you ask the big players in the industry about their investment on cable TV, you will expect that they spend millions of dollars to start a huge company like cable TV. One of the important things that a cable TV provider have are their relationships to the cable channels included in their lists, and their fellow subscribers who are watching their favorite shows in their cable television.

HDTV

HDTV requires high-definition signals in order to broadcast superior-quality picture. The signals transmitted over the air with antennas are received by a HD tuner, which is built into modern-day television sets. A separate tuner box can be used for television sets that do not have an inbuilt HD tuner. Certain cable television companies offer HDTV transmission through set-top boxes issued by them to the TV users. Some of the satellite TV systems of today feature support for the reception and transmission of TV signals.

An HDTV features a digital broadcasting of signals. Digital signals use patterns of 1s and 0s, which result in higher-resolution images. Also, digital images are less fuzzy and have more clarity. The transmission of digital signals results in sharper and more realistic colors and an improved picture quality. The digital compression methods used by HDTV allow the bandwidth of a single analog channel to be used by two high-definition TV channels.

HDTV offers a frame-rate of 25-60 frames per second. It uses an interlaced scanning system in contrast with the progressive scanning system used by traditional television. Progressive scanning is a method of displaying moving images in which all the lines of each frame are drawn in a sequence. Interlaced scanning is a method of electronic display wherein each row of pixels of a moving image is scanned using two frame fields, one for odd lines of the image and the other for its even lines. Interlacing helps in the reduction of flicker, thus improving picture quality.

There is a marked difference between the aspect ratios (the width of a picture divided by its height) of a traditional television and HDTV. High-definition television systems offer an aspect ratio of 16:9 as against 4:3 offered by traditional television. Greater aspect ratio means that HDTV comes with a wider screen and provides clearer pictures. read more »
